The Pokemon trading card game was created in Japan in 1996. Tt was based on the Pokemon video game series.
Three years later (in 1999), the game was introduced to North America by a company called Wizards of the Coast. Very soon, the card game had been released around the world to great excitement. The licence was then given (by Nintendo ) from the Wizards of the Coast to the Pokemon Trading Company.
From there, the Pokemon trading Card Game grew into the behemoth that is is today, enjoyed by both children and adults around the world.
Collectors the world over pay huge sums for rare cards. Currently, there is a Pokemon Pikachu Illustrator Promo Graded PSA 9 for $100,000. Whether they get that or not remains to be seen, but at the time of writing, there was considerable interest.
